Advancing the Future of Global Mobile Connectivity
MSS stakeholders are coming together under this new mobile satellite industry association to bring significant scale and choice to promote and advance the emerging Direct-to-Device (D2D) and IoT ecosystems.
Join us in establishing a common approach to global coverage.
About MSSA
The Mobile Satellite Services Association (MSSA) has a vision to integrate terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks (NTN) to deliver scalable, sustainable and affordable connectivity to any device, anytime, anywhere.
We intend to facilitate a global ecosystem utilizing over 100 MHz of L- and S-band spectrum already allocated and licensed for mobile satellite services (MSS) – well-suited for integration into a broad range of mobile devices.
Key initiatives include coordination of 3GPP and other standards activities, as well as regulatory and space sustainability advocacy.
Join founding members Viasat, Terrestar Solutions, Ligado Networks, Omnispace and Yahsat as we steer this important new initiative – together.
Everything is Connected.
MSS Stakeholders Need To Be As Well.
Our work in the satellite sector must be rooted in a common approach. We aim to usher in a new era where satellite connectivity seamlessly integrates into consumer mobile devices.
This Association will help create opportunities to scale NTN systems via open, standards-based solutions for D2D and IoT.
MSSA provides a unified front for MSS spectrum rights holders across relevant industry and standards bodies including 3GPP, GSMA, ITU, and the 5G Automotive Association, among others.
MSSA Is For:
- Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and MVNOs
- L- and S-Band Spectrum Rights Holders
- Mobile Phone Manufacturers
- Automotive OEMs
- Network Infrastructure Providers
- Satellite Operators
- Chipset Vendors
- Application Developers
- IoT Companies
- Government Stakeholders
- Test Equipment Vendors
- Standardization Bodies
MSSA Goals
Interoperable Architectures and Standards
Unlock interoperable architectures and standards for use in multi-orbit satellite systems, ground infrastructure, and end-user equipment.
Seamless Global Roaming
Enhance seamless global roaming between terrestrial and multi-orbit satellite networks through the development of recommended specifications.
Achieve Scale Through Improved Coordination
Achieving scale through improved coordination and cooperation mechanisms among MSS operators to maximize the utility of over 100 MHz of already available and licensed global MSS spectrum in nations desiring advanced NTN services.
Maximize Scarce Multi-Orbit Space and Spectrum Resources
Maximize scarce multi-orbit space and spectrum resources to enable affordable 5G NTN services through regulatory advocacy on space sustainability, equitable access to space, objective metrics on orbital carrying capacity, and space-terrestrial and space-space spectrum regulations.
Advocate for Policies, Laws and Regulations
Advocating for policies, laws and regulations, including those related to rational, efficient, safe and sustainable uses of spectrum and orbits, and where appropriate, objective and quantitative metrics regarding all objects in orbit around Earth.
Integration with National Telecommunications Infrastructure
Supporting the integration of space networks into national telecommunications infrastructure via trusted local partners and within sovereign regulatory and national security frameworks.
Support Nations in the Space Economy
Supporting mechanisms for individual nations to participate in the new space economy via open standards and architectures, and via the space networks supported by MSSA.
Coordinate Standards Activities
Providing a neutral forum for coordination of 3GPP NTN and other international standards activities.
